When most people think of Taiwan, they picture the bustling city of Taipei with its many monuments, museums, and endless food options. But Taiwan is much more than that: just outside its busy city streets lies a natural world with unique features that set Taiwan apart from the rest of the world as a natural paradise.
Sun Moon Lake is a semi-natural lake, and the natural body of water within the big island of Taiwan. The name comes from the shape of the lake, with part of the lake looking like a crescent moon while the other resembles that shape of the sun. The lake is such a sight to behold, it was featured in a number of famed paintings by well-known Chinese artists.
Sun Moon Lake Scenic Area is a great place to relax and be one with nature. It is known for incredible scenic bike trails, Boat shuttles across the lake, and some beautiful hiking trails leading to temples and shrines. Notable sits include Wenwu Temple, Ci’en Pagoda, and the Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village.
A personal suggestion: If you go, try the tea eggs. Got more than one, they were the best we ever had!
